USB Based People Counters with Flash Drives

With the previous version of our People Counters with USB connectivity, the entire receiver unit of the People Counting system had to be removed from its mounted location and connected directly to a PC.  Our latest version is equipped with a port that allows users to connect a flash drive to the receiver unit and download the data onto the flash drive.  Then, simply connect the flash drive to a PC to upload the data.  At that point, users will have the option to view the data via the SensorServer software application or Excel.  Not having to remove the counting system’s receiver unit will allow the People Counter to continue operation while the latest data is being uploaded to a PC.

Custom Sensormatic & Checkpoint Compatible Security Labels

Sensormatic UltraStrip III DR and our Checkpoint compatible ALL-TAG Security Labels integrated with larger, custom designed labels with high strength glue are now in high demand with many top retailers around the world.  Some retailers want a colorful, custom printed cover label to hide the embedded security label from shoplifters.  Other retailers want clear cover labels so that the product information on the outside of a box can still be viewed by normal shoppers.  In either case, the extra strength branding glue makes it virtually impossible for the complete label to be removed from the product without defacing the product.  This protects the product from being stolen and resold on the gray market, which is a common problem with Organized Retail Crime (ORC).

 

The picture above is an example of a Sensormatic security label integrated with a large clear label with extra strong adhesive.  The cover label appears blue, because it is adhered to a blue surface.

Deter Theft with Warning Messages and Icons Printed on Security Labels

Not only does ALL-TAG manufacture their Checkpoint compatible 8.2 MHz Radio Frequency RF security labels in their United States facility, but we also have custom printing services that can increase the security level of or adhesive labels.  You can see an example of this in the image above.  The loss prevention director for one of our retail customers wanted the words “Electronically Protected” printed on the labels, along with a speaker icon.  The message and icon serve as a warning to would be shoplifters that the retail merchandise is secured, and thus it would not be wise to attempt to steal it.  This certainly does not represent the highest level of article surveillance, but it offers retailers a way to increase security at a fraction of a penny per unit.

ALL-TAG’s Historical Involvement with AM & RF Label Source Tagging

Improve Merchandizing & Increase Sales by Analyzing Retail Shopper Behavior

All-Tag offers products that detect the proximity and actions of retail shoppers in order to reveal the behavior of retail store shoppers.  With our state of the art Sensors, our Sensor Network Gateway (SNG) that sends data to a local or remote PC, and our user-friendly software package, the possibilities of collecting and analyzing various types of data are limitless.  The Sensors carried by All-Tag include the People Counter, Proximity Sensor (PS10-1), Contact Sensors that are compatible with InVueÒ POD (Protection on Demand) products, the Thru Beam Small Hole Sensor, the Radar Sensor, the Floor Sensor, and the Laser Sensor.  We have already blogged about our People Counters many times, so this post will focus mainly on the latest Sensors.

Proximity Sensor

The Proximity Sensor (PS100-1) detects the presence of people and measures their proximity to a specified object.  This allows retailers to measure the number of people drawn-in to a particular object or location within the store, and the duration that they remain engaged with that object and/or area.

Thru-Beam Small Hole Sensor

Perfect for more covert tracking efforts, the Thru Beam Small Hole Sensor is a small, discrete sensor that can be built into a 13mm hole anywhere throughout the store.  Using advanced technology, the transmitter unit transmits an infrared beam to the receiver unit so that each time someone passes between the two, the infrared beam is broken, signaling the device to increase its count by one.

Radar Sensors

Radar sensors use Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar to reliably detect moving or stationary targets.  All-Tag’s Top View Radar Sensor is placed above the target tracking area, such as an entrance, to count persons that enter into that space.

Floor Sensor

The Floor Sensor is essentially a mat with built-in sensor capability, placed underneath a traditional doormat to conceal the equipment from shoppers.  The sensor detects and counts people as they step onto the mat, in addition to measuring the length of time people remain put.

Laser Sensor

Using advanced technology, the Laser Sensor’s long-range capability is able to measure pedestrians walking through the street or in front of an object.  It measures the number of people walking by or through specified areas.  This data helps retailers determine the value of a location in the store, enabling them to direct their advertising efforts accordingly.

All of the Sensors above are used in conjunction with our SNG and to send data to a local or remote PC.  With the use of our software installed on the PC, the data can be formatted into a table or graph and exported as a CSV file to external applications for a more in-depth analysis.  We are perhaps most excited about the contact sensors, which can be used in conjunction with InVue’s POD products (“protection on demand”) to allow retailers to gather information on customers handling expensive electronic merchandise being protected by a security unit.

Tags for Security, Tracking, and Omni-Channel Management

ALL-TAG is taking retail merchandise tagging to a whole new level by offering Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) security tags that also incorporate Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) and Omni-Channel Management technology.  A single tag will offer increased security, merchandise tracking, inventory management, and the vast array of benefits associated with Omni-Channel marketing.  We’re all familiar with EAS and RFID technologies, as well the tags now available that combine them.  Omni-Channel Management, however, is a newer concept that we want to share with our customers and site viewers.

Through the strategic coordination of available selling channels, retailers are using omni-channel distribution to maximize revenue and offer their customers a better shopping experience.  Omni-channel distribution integrates a retailer’s online, in-store, and/or catalogue selling channels to grant shoppers new capabilities for picking-up online orders in-store and having out-of-stock items shipped in from another retail location.  The process enables retailers to move slow-selling merchandise without having to slash prices as well as stock a larger assortment of products, helping to create a better shopping experience for customers.

Online and in-store shopping channels both offer distinct advantages, generating revenue that would otherwise be greatly diminished or lost if either of the channel options was unavailable to the consumer.  Aside from increasing sales through gaining a greater reach in the market, another significant advantage of omni-channel selling is the ability to quickly move merchandise from one location to another when an item that is not selling in one store is a hot-ticket item in another.   Being able to strategically move merchandise allows supply to be met by demand so that businesses no longer have to absorb the margin loss experienced from discounting slow-moving items as well as the loss of sales resulting from items being out-of-stock.

The online channel saves consumers time and allows them to shop from the comfort of their own home, with the advantage of being able to compare prices, search for product information and reviews, and provide feedback.  Furthermore, online shopping behavior generates personalized recommendations used to gain additional sales over time.  For some consumers with busy or difficult schedules, the online channel is the only option available to them in the timeframe that they have open during the day.  Other consumers are enticed by special online promotions, generating unplanned purchases that would not have been instigated without the online channel.

In contrast, brick-and-mortar stores offer a better sensory experience that many consumers prefer over shopping online.  In-store shoppers gain the ability to try items out before purchasing, and are granted instant gratification from being able to immediately take the item(s) home after purchase, a significant value for the in-store shopper.  Therefore, omni-channel distribution models offer a steady stream of revenue that would not have been acquired through a single-channel distribution system.  In fact, recent research has found that omni-channel customers spend an average of four to five times more than their single-channel counterparts.

Omni-channel delivery is the process of integrating multiple channels in a way that provides shoppers with a seamless brand experience.  To begin implementing an omni-channel distribution system, a retailer must first devise a solid plan for addressing the accuracy and visibility of its inventory.  The first and most critical step in launching a successful omni-channel distribution network is to attain the necessary IT equipment used to monitor and track inventory, as well as give employees the tools they need to coordinate their efforts.

Whereas most warehouses use an advanced inventory management system to track the quantity and location of merchandise, retail stores have traditionally had a much less accurate tracking system in place.  In order to achieve omni-channel fulfillment, retailers need to implement measures to ensure the accuracy of their inventory management system.  An example of a critical issue that can arise without inventory transparency is if a customer were to place an online order for pick-up, only to find out that the item was out-of-stock upon arriving at the store.  The negative experience would presumably result in a loss of that sale, compounded by the loss of a customer’s loyalty and unlikelihood to shop again.

In order to improve in-store inventory management, retailers need to invest in technology created to track merchandise with accuracy and transparency.  The most coveted tracking system currently in play uses RFID technology, employing identification tags that show retailers exactly what merchandise is available and where.  RFID was first implemented by department stores with a high rate of success, allowing them to manage the large assortment of items offered.  However, with omni-channel distribution rapidly growing in popularity, specialty stores and small retailers have begun to realize the profit potential unleashed by accurate inventory tracking equipment.

Retailers should also consider implementing tools enabling employees to view real time inventory levels and alerting them of online orders placed for pick-up in their store.  Equipment of this aptitude would allow employees to locate merchandise in the store as well as search other locations for out-of-stock items to have them shipped to their store for pick-up.  For handling online orders placed for in-store pick-up, employees could use the tool to receive timely alerts in order to have the merchandise ready for the customer by the time he or she arrives.

Omni-channel retailing holds great potential for tapping into new streams of revenue and optimizing inventory to reduce shrinkage.  The new model offers the opportunity for retailers to reduce out-of-stock mishaps and margin loss resulting from overstocking slow-moving merchandise susceptible to markdown.   If implemented correctly, omni-channel distribution can reduce costs, increase sales, and enhance customers’ shopping experience.  RFID technology and compatible applications can provide retailers with a holistic view of the company’s inventory, maximizing the revenue potential of omni-channel selling.

ALL-TAG Releases the Smallest Battery Powered Traffic Counter in the World

ALL-TAG, a leading manufacturer of anti-theft Security Tags, Security Labels, and People Counting Systems, announces the newest addition of the Micro Display Counter to its suite of People Counting Systems.

For many years, the company has supplied affordable, reliable, and user-friendly People Counting Systems to retailers, libraries, museums, and many other businesses. These traffic counting systems are currently being used by such businesses all over the world.

ALL-TAG now offers the marketplace the Micro Display Counter; the smallest battery powered traffic counter in the world. This completely wireless device, can be setup in minutes, and requires virtually no maintenance.

“The Micro Display Counter is a completely wireless, reliable, and user-friendly People Counting tool,” explained Sales and Marketing Director Andy Gilbert. “Whether it’s used to help a retail store determine their sales conversion ratio, or a library keep track of their visitor count, the Micro Counter will help almost any type of business operate more efficiently.”

The transmitter unit (PTX10-1) transmits an infrared beam to the receiver unit (PRX10MD1). The infrared beam is transmitted and received from the side of the PTX10-1 and PRX10MD1 respectively.

When someone passes between the two units and breaks the infrared beam, the number on the display screen increases by one. The number includes people entering and exiting a space, so the separate in and out counts can be determined by simply dividing the number by two. The Micro Display Counter can be reset back to zero at any time with the use of a special tool we provide.

In a statement released earlier today, ALL-TAG, a leading manufacturer of anti-theft Security Tags, Security Labels, and People Counting Systems, announced that the management team from ALL-TAG Security Americas, Inc., with assistance from a Florida based Investment Group, purchased ALL-TAG Security Americas Inc., ALL-TAG Security U.K. Limited, ALL-TAG Security Hong Kong Limited, and selected assets of ALL-TAG Security S.A. of Belgium.

As a result of the purchase, most of the Radio Frequency (RF) Label production equipment will be moved from the factory in Belgium to the ALL-TAG Security Americas, Inc. factory in Boca Raton, Florida, USA.

ALL-TAG Security Americas, Inc. will be the new global headquarters for ALL-TAG, and will handle the vast majority of RF Label production, sales, and customer service for ALL-TAG customers around the world.

“This investment illustrates the dedication our management team has in the success of ALL-TAG,” explained Sales and  Marketing Director Andy Gilbert. “The purchase was the next logical step for the company and we have some innovative plans in store that will take ALL-TAG to next level.”
